Non-NHS Services

Some services provided or requests received are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore are private work and attract charges.

Examples include the following:

  • non_nhs_services3Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
  • Private sick notes
  • Vaccination certificates
  • Letters from your GP

As this work is private work, patients seeking the completion of medical examinations or medical forms, should ensure that that they check that the practice can fulfil the request and ensure significant notice is given for completion.

Sporting events - important note,  Medical Indemnity companies will not provide insurance cover for GPs to sign forms or give assurances of fitness for events that lie outside of their area of expertise. Increasingly there are examples in medical literature of doctors declaring someone’s fitness for an event only to be challenged later to prove their competency to make this decision and being found lacking.  Specialist sporting events are challenging and physically demanding and a GP is not in a position to make an adequate and sufficiently detailed assessment of someone’s fitness to take part in them.  We are therefore unable to complete such requests deferring these decisions to specialist sports physicians who have both the expertise and the equipment to test an individual to make an assessment of this fitness.

The fees charged for the completion of private work are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
